ADA [ndash] John Scott Bell, 56, of Ada, passed away Tuesday, May 28th, 2024. Born May 8, 1968, to Roy Don Sr. and Helen Louise, John graduated from Ada High in '86. John's football career abruptly ended, at which point he entered the workforce. Through a series of employers, including Evergreen Mills, Anderson Quarries and the current LaFarge-Holcim, his unwavering dedication was something few can live up to. Employed with Holcim for 15+ years, John has served as the President of the Union for 7 years where his care for those he worked alongside and the job they completed together showed. John had no shortage of interests which led to an innumerable number of acquaintances and close friendships - many of which spanned decades. From football, to hunting and fishing, to classic cars and motorcycles, he found joy in that which kept him outdoors. John could talk to anyone about anything and was a master at finding something to have in common with all he knew. There was no simple way to "run an errand with John" as he would always run into an old friend or make a new one along the way. John held Lake Fork in high regard for memories both old and new. Fishing tournaments and trips with his friends several were a highlight for him. Left behind are son Holden Bell (Ada), close friend Jennifer Bell (Ada), siblings Roy Bell (Tulsa), Khrystal Blankenship and husband Chris (Ada), and Weldon Bell (Broken Arrow). Additionally, nephew Colton Blankenship and wife Carter (Ada), nieces Kaitlin Blankenship (Springfield, IL), Emma, Grace and Lily (Broken Arrow), secondary son Dillion Cranford (Stonewall) and many cousins and friends too numerous to list. John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and dog Oscar. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 1 at 10am at Rosedale Cemetery with Jamie Perry officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your local "Take a Kid Fishing Day", a child's school lunch account, or charity of your choosing.

ADA [ndash] A Celebration of Life for Jackie Henry, 78, of Ada will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at Wintersmith Lodge in Ada with remarks and remembrances beginning at 1:00 p.m.Ms. Henry passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2024, at her home, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. She was born October 1, 1945, in Ada to Odus L. and Mary Ruby Woodruff McGalliard. She lived in the Ada and Sulphur area her whole life. Ms. Henry's first passion was for teaching, and she was a well-loved teacher at Sulphur High School in the early 1970s. She was a social worker for the Department of Human Services in both Murray and Carter County and was employed at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf in-between her time with DHS. After retirement, Jackie turned her focus and energy to DIY home improvement projects and bragged at least once a year that she cut and laid the new tile during her bathroom remodel. She also took great pleasure in globetrotting with her brother, Don and his wife Eloise and often remarked that two kids from Vanoss, or Latta, or Ada (all places they lived growing up) were a long way from home and finally seeing the world. Jackie felt very proud to have visited Scotland, England, Ireland, Switzerland, the whole Alaska coastline, British Columbia, and Athens, Greece. She was a cancer survivor, beating Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2015. When her health no longer allowed for traveling, she had a brief stint as an amateur artist, inspired by a night out at the Rusty Nail Winery, pairing wine with a painting class, resulting in an embarrassing attempt at a pastoral scene. Blaming the combination of chemo and wine her first failure, she put all her efforts into proving to herself she could create something worthy of hanging on a wall and feverishly made 7 canvases until her hands were overwhelmed with arthritis. Her final passion, and one she was able to share with her son, Jason, was reading everything she could get her hands on about military history and history in general. They began a book club of two, exchanging books by mail and discussing them afterward. She is survived by her son, Jason Henry and wife, Joi, of Midland, TX; daughter, Kyla Henry of Portland, OR; two granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn Henry of Midland, TX, and Sarah Lynn Henry of Midland, TX; and a dear friend, Paula Myers Hatton of Ada.She was preceded in death by her parents and by her "big" sister, Kay Tucker of Ada, and her "little" brother Don "Butch" McGalliard, of Madisonville, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jackie's honor to the Pontotoc County Animal Welfare Society or the American Cancer Society.

<![CDATA[The Ada News: Obituaries]]> (3)

TULSA [ndash] On Friday, October 6, 2023, Stanley Howard Hodges, 56, passed from this adventure to the next. Due to complications from pneumonia, he was taken from us unexpectedly, and way too soon.Stan was born and raised in Ada, Oklahoma. After a wild and rowdy youth involving loud music, motorcycles, cars, and good times, he attended OSU-Okmulgee where he earned an Associate Degree in Automotive Repair, and met his wife, Jennifer. He went on to become an ASE Certified Master Technician, worked at several Oklahoma dealerships in Ada, Holdenville, and Tulsa, as well as owned his own shop, and then his own mobile mechanic business. In December of 2004, Stanley began working for the State of Oklahoma with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). While with ODOT, he worked as a Fleet Technician in several districts (Buffalo, Muskogee, & Tulsa), then later, on highway crews in Alfalfa County, Pontotoc County, and as a superintendent in Hughes County.Stan loved life and all the fun it had to offer. He treasured his family and friends and always sought to help them whenever he could. He thrived as someone who could help others, and he had an uncanny ability to fix whatever was broken. He took joy in sunrises, sunsets, time out in nature, fishing, photography, riding on his cherished Harley Davidson motorcycle, nicknamed "Cherry," seeing new sites, and spending time with his friends and family. He especially loved keeping those same friends and family on their toes with his many pranks. In return, he was loved and appreciated by many. His absence has left a void in the world of all who knew him. He was a rock we leaned on. He mattered. He was proceeded in death by the grandparents who raised him, Joseph and Mildred Holbrook, as well as their daughter, Elsie Reed, who was like an older sister to Stan. His love for them knew no bounds, and he was forever appreciative of their positive influences in his life.He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, his mother Wanda and husband Steven, his father Stanley and wife Sylvia, his sisters Tina, Sherry, and, Novella, cousins David, Rosanna, Mildred, Elsie, Johnny, and Regina, his niece Sierra, his nephew Jesse, and many other close and extended family members, with special mentions to Gus, Allen, Gary Don, Bart, Annette, "Bobcat," Becky, Julie, Justin, and Angel. To honor Stan's memory and his inclination for always lending a helping hand, please consider charitable donations, donating blood (Stan was a universal donor, because of course he was), or taking time to listen and give a kind, supportive word to those who need it. Stan enjoyed hearing the life stories and experiences of others. Most of all, live your life, now, to the fullest, with no regrets. That is what Stan wanted the most for everyone.Private family services have been held. A stone has been placed at Lightning Ridge Cemetery in Pontotoc County Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA CITY [ndash] Daniel Charles "Dan" Blackwell, 62, went to be with his Savior on May 5, 2023, in Oklahoma City. He was born on August 26, 1961, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Wilburn T. Blackwell and Mildred Willis Blackwell. He graduated from Stonewall High School in 1979 and attended Seminole Junior College.Dan was preceded in death by his parents W. T. and Mildred Blackwell, and brother James Blackwell. He is survived by his sister Anita Blackwell Robertson of Aqaba, Jordan, his brother Ronald Blackwell (Donna) of Oklahoma City; his nieces Alisa Martinez (Simon) of Tulsa, Melanie Norton (Johnny) of Noble, Jamie Blackwell of Madill, Karie Blackwell of Ardmore, and Starla Cumberbatch (Paul) of Oklahoma City; his nephews Aaron Robertson (Brandy) of Hillsboro, Texas, Skylor Blackwell of Bethany, Jett Blackwell of Newalla, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He had a special friendship with Charlotte Shores of Wilson, Oklahoma. He lived most of his adult life in Oklahoma City, where he worked for UPS and FedEx, retiring early to enjoy life.Dan grew up the youngest of four siblings on a farm near Stonewall, Oklahoma, and enjoyed playing baseball in high school. We called him Dan "The Man" because, much like Stan "The Man" Musial, Dan ate, slept, and breathed baseball. He and his brother Ron spent hours playing with a tennis ball, wiffle ball, walnuts, whatever. They even built a field to-scale in the pasture where they practiced until their mother called them in.He was six years younger than Ron, but he could compete with him. His class went to State all four years, finishing runner-up three times and winning it all his senior year. Selected to All-State in 1979 as a shortstop, he played in the North-South game at ORU. Later, he was on the team for Byng American Legion, and Seminole Junior College recruited him. He was frequently in the newspaper for his heroics, hitting over twenty home runs and averaging close to a .400 batting average in 1980.He also played on the basketball squad, but he said it was just to stay in shape for baseball.Dan was a huge fan of the 2023 World Series champs, the Texas Rangers. Just before he met his appointment with God, Dan got to see them play in person. He had an enviable memory, knowing the names of the members of every rock group from his teen years and the lyrics to all their songs. He could recount details that had happened in his life decades previously and recall what the weather was like that day, what he wore, what he ate for lunch. Old age seemed not to dim his brain. He had a keen interest in World War II, since his dad was a decorated veteran of the Philippine theater. He was a creative writer. His sister encouraged him to write about family stories. He recently complied with a couple of articles about two well-known televangelists who visited his parents' home at the beginning of their ministries in the early 1970s. Although they came at separate times to preach at Dan's home church, they both wound up in the Blackwell home for Mildred's cooking.Loving adventure, he recently met up in Arkansas with cousins from California to view the solar eclipse. He was passionate about what was going on in the world, researching current events to compare with end-time prophecies in the Bible.More important to him than baseball, rock groups, eclipses, World War II, or news was his relationship with the Lord. Dan was ready to meet Him. Frankly, when he had a life-threatening case of COVID a couple of years ago, he was a little disappointed he didn't keep his appointment then. He is now in the presence of God, enjoying his greatest adventure to date. His family plans a future celebration of life.

Survivors include her husband, Hipolito (Polo) Vazquez of the home; son, Richard Vazquez and wife Ginger; her two daughters, Rosa Stout and husband James and Yolande Vazquez; her eight grandchildren, Cesar Gonzalez, Nicholas Vazquez, Alyssandra Vazquez, Faith Stout, Steven Stout, David Stout, Isabella Vazquez, and Luke Vazquez; her siblings Dolores Rodríguez Picazo and Raúl Rodríguez Picazo.Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers Francisco Rodríguez Picazo, Ramón Rodríguez Picazo, her sister Sanjuana Rodríguez Vera, and her beloved son Roy Vazquez.Teresa was a remarkable woman whose life was a testament of strength, resilience, and unwavering love. On May 31,1968 Teresa married the love of her life, Polo. She embarked on a journey of love that resulted in her leaving her homeland to begin a new life with her beloved husband in Ada, Oklahoma. She braved the challenges of adapting to a new country, learning a new language, and adjusting to a different culture with unparalleled grace and determination. Teresa wore many hats throughout her life. She was an amazing mother who made her children the center of her world and made sure were well taken care of. With four children, she embraced the challenges and joys of motherhood with unwavering love and devotion. She was a pillar of strength for her family. She instilled in her children the values of integrity, resilience, compassion and a good work ethic that would shape their lives forever. Her playful and competitive side would often show through when she spent time with her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Nana". She was not one to lose out on prizes from birthday pinatas, so they learned to stay out of her way-the sparkly rings were her favorite. She was a formidable player when it came to games, especially Lotería. She always had luck on her side and would often boast that "it wasn't the card; it was la persona". She loved joking with them and giving them a hard time, especially at Christmastime when "Mrs. Claus" would pass out her gifts. When her children were older, Teresa could be found spending time with her husband at the restaurant they owned together-Polo's Authentic Mexican Restaurant. They were a great team and complemented each other nicely and together they built a flourishing business that has been in Ada for the last 49 years. She had a great attention to detail which helped ensure her customers had a great dining experience. During lunchtime you would often find her sitting down chatting with customers in her unofficial role of "public relations". Her presence at the restaurant is already missed by her friends, customers, and employees. In her spare time, Teresa also became a gifted china painter whose art won numerous awards. She was also intrigued with experimenting with other cuisines and would create amazing savory culinary creations. She was definitely the best chef in the house. Teresa took great pride in her home. Whether it was small gatherings or large family events she was the consummate hostess and made her home warm and inviting for all who passed through the front door. She loved flowers and, in the summer, would often be found working in her flower beds. She was a lover of animals, most recently a cat lover. Her cats were her babies that she loved to spoil. She raised sweet cats that provided her unconditional love and would never leave her side.Teresa was a true lady in every sense of the word- poised, graceful, and dignified, with an unwavering spirit that knew no bounds. While she may no longer be with us, her legacy of resilience and hard work will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her presence. In lieu of flowers, please donate to P.A.W.S. (Pontotoc Animal Welfare Society) at 1200 Sandy Creek Dr. Ada, OK. The choice to donate to P.A.W.S. in Teresa's honor is a beautiful tribute to her love for animals.
