OBITUARY GEORGE LAIRD At the Fleury Hospital on September 21, 1996 at the age of ninety-four. Beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Gerty), dear father of Irene Fiegiel, Donna Cochrane. Predeceased by daughter Georgina Brown. Loving grandfather and greatgrandfather of twenty-three children. George Laird was born in Kingston, Ontario attending the Royal Military College and served in World War I.
After leaving the service he was employed by Koppers Construction and arrived in Montreal in 1927 to help build a new plant called Lasalle co*ke Company. When the plant started he was given the opportunity to stay and operate the plant in the position of Foreman. When he retired in 1967 the Company was called Quebec Natural Gas and he was one of their longest standing employees. Mr. George Laird was very active in the Masonic Lodge.
He belonged to the Eastern Star, was a Chartered Member of the Island Lodge of Ile Perrot and Life Member of the Rivers Manitoba Lodge. Having lived in Ile Perrot for many, years was instrumental in having the First English School built along with the Presbyterian Church. Mr. George Laird, Dad, Grandad was loved by us all, he always maintained his sense of humour, strength of spirit, along with his fondness for Hot Toddy's and Dunkin Donuts. A.
